Development and Application of Intelligent Debris Flow Decision Information System in Taiwan

    by Chi-Ron Chung, Hsiao-Yuan Yin, Ke-Wei Yan, Wen-Yuan Ku and Pi-Hui Huang*

    Abstract

In recent years, the climate change is getting more and more serious. Frequent typhoons and heavy rains aggravate the hazard factors, resulting in more compound disasters. Simultaneously, these compound disasters make the task of disaster prevention more difficult. The disaster management includes four stages: Reduction, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Soil and Water Conservation Bureau in Taiwan, as the authority responsible for debris flow disaster management, needs to c...

Application of Fuzzy Theory and Analytic Hierarchy Process on the Environmental Sensitivity Assessment

    by Wen-Tzu Lin*

    Abstract

In recent years, with the rise of rural tourism, hillside rural communities have been heavily developed, causing an increased burden of environmental sustainability. This rural structural change will affect the sustainability of the countryside and destroy the economic benefits or ecological landscape of the countryside. Simultaneously, improper development will result in soil and water conservation safety for the rural areas on hillside land. The Huashan area, located in the hillside of Gukeng ...

Backfill Filter of Various Soil Types for Groundwater Monitoring Well

by Hong Yao-Ming and Amit kumar sah *

    Abstract

This study established the grain size distribution of backfill filter for groundwater monitoring well. Backfill filter is used to prevent the erosion of base soil such as silt and clay. Formation of backfill filter is determined by the ratio of silt and clay within base soil. Therefore, 6 types of soil sample were prepared with percentage of 10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% of soil passing through the #200 sieve. Grain size distribution of Backfill filter can be obtained by Hong et. al. (2011). P...

Applying GIS to flood risk assessment: analysis of hazard, exposure and vulnerability

    by I-Hui Chen *

    Abstract

This study employed GIS analysis for flood risk assessment that is considered on social, economic, and environmental factors for flood zones and regeneration areas in a case study of Sheffield in the UK. The GIS layers consist of three components, namely hazard, exposure and vulnerability, whose key variables and coefficients are selected using methods of principal component analysis and geographically weighted regression in GIS tools. Each score of the three components is indicated at 1,2 and 3...

Preliminary assessment of anti-inflammatory activities in vitro and clustering potential of natural herbs using heatmap analysis

    by K. S. Yao and Y. Wang

    Abstract

Approximately 2% of populations around the world are still suffering from inflammation and pain of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Inflammation is a response for excluding any harmful substances into the host, but its detailed mechanism is unclear. Although non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been widely remedied RA, some NSAIDs show the drug side-effects. Therefore, the aim focused on the evaluation of the anti-inflammatory activity of natural herbs in vitro and further rapidly predi...
