Preliminary assessment of anti-inflammatory activities in vitro and clustering potential of natural herbs using heatmap analysis

Abstract:
Approximately 2% of populations around the world are still suffering from inflammation and pain of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Inflammation is a response for excluding any harmful substances into the host, but its detailed mechanism is unclear. Although non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been widely remedied RA, some NSAIDs show the drug side-effects. Therefore, the aim focused on the evaluation of the anti-inflammatory activity of natural herbs in vitro and further rapidly predict the clustering potential of these medicines by using the method of heatmap based on hierarchical clustering analysis. The results showed that S. aulis, E. sinica, and HMC had well protection activity of protein denaturation and membrane stabilization. In terms of DPPH radical scavenging activity, HMA, HMC, C. cassia, S. caulis, E. sinica and A. sinensis also had good removal efficiency. After analysis of heatmap, it clearly showed that E. herbs and HMC had the best inhibition activity of protein degeneration and membrane stabilization, respectively. In short, the evidence implies that the herbal medicines process the anti-inflammatory activities in vitro and heatmap analysis has the potential for the rapid hierarchical clustering of natural herbs based on the pharmaceutical performance indexes including IAPD, IAHA, and DPPH.
